Name’s Chuck but I’m better known by my stage name “Big Daddy Shred” or simply “Shred”. Quick story about that. I was on stage one evening here at home in Memphis enjoying a particularly “on” night and had just torn through a blistering solo when a dude sitting at a table close to the stage jumps up and hollers “Look at BIG DADDY up there just SHREDding his ass off” and it stuck. So anyway I’m a musician that would be equally at ease on a stage trading licks with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons as I would Slayer’s Kerry King though I must profess I tend to lean a bit toward a scorching, bluesy southern rock approach with heavy metal intensity…I began playing after hearing the likes of Rush, Kiss, Led Zeppelin and British metal bands like Saxon and Judas Priest. After a few lessons early on, everything else was learned by ear. Falling under the influence of Randy Rhoads, Criss Oliva and neo-classical shredders the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore and Steve Vai, over time I developed my own unique style (in my opinion anyway) that is immediately recognizeable as my stage nickname “BIG DADDY SHRED”. From Skynyrd to Savatage, from southern rock to savage metal, I try to combine all these components to breathe life into all of my compositions. Perhaps best known as the guitarist for “Massacre Machine”, I guess I could best summarize my playing style as an amalgam of Randy Rhoads, Criss Oliva & George Lynch with a couple shots of Dimebag.
